“Solutions for Seniors on the Go”, provides seniors 65 years of age and better with three transportation options to easily get to and from doctor’s appointments, pharmacies, grocery stores, and other daily outings. The three different transportation services offered through the “Solutions for Seniors on the Go” are as follows:

Taxi Scrip Purchase
Purchasing taxi scrip provides a curb-to-curb transportation option which costs the senior $7 for a ride booklet valued at $20. The senior has the option to purchase either Yellow Cab Scrip or 24-7 Cab Scrip. This program is intended for trips anywhere within North County.

Van Service
The van service costs $5 per one-way trip and is a door-to-door transportation option. The service provides transportation seven days a week from 6:00 a.m., to 6:00 p.m., to any location within Oceanside, Carlsbad, and Vista. In addition, transportation is provided to Scripps Encinitas, Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital, and any medical facility in San Marcos.

Volunteer Driver Services
This service is free and is a door-through-door transportation option. The free service is made possible, in part, by members of the community who have volunteered to use their own vehicle to provide rides to seniors. The ride is requested through the Transportation Coordinator and will be assigned a volunteer driver. The volunteer will then pick the senior up at his/her residence, assist them to the vehicle including the carrying of bags, drive the senior to his/her destination, provide assistance at the destination or simply wait at the doctors office, and then return the senior home – again providing assistance with bags or groceries.

Volunteer drivers are needed! To be eligible to drive you must be 18 years of age or older, have a valid driver’s license and insurance, and have a good DMV record. All volunteers are required to be fingerprinted and pass a background check prior to “working”. Volunteer drivers are provided mileage reimbursement for providing transportation and destination assistance to seniors.

For additional information about the services offered in the “Solutions for Seniors on the Go” program, or to volunteer to drive call the Transportation Coordinator at (760) 435-5155 or visit oceansiderec.com for more information.
