About Us

The San Diego County Volunteer Driver Coalition generally meets bi-monthly either in person or via a conference call. The Coalition shares best practices and works together to promote the need for volunteer driving programs and senior transportation in San Diego. The Coalition also opens its meetings to programs from across the country that are interested in starting similar programs.

These programs are funded through private donations, client donations/fees, and through several grant programs such as those managed by the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). Through Transnet, the half-cent sales tax for local transportation projects that was first approved by voters in 1988, and extended in 2004 for another 40 years, several grant opportunities are available.

Each October the event holds a Volunteer Driver Appreciation event to celebrate the volunteer drivers across all agencies with a lunch and driver training opportunity.
